The status of the result is part of the information

A hypothesis, a preclinical observation, a clinical result and a decision by an authority do not describe the same stage. The title of a press release must allow the reader to locate the announcement. If this precision is relegated to a distant footnote, dramatic wording can create an expectation that the detailed content does not support. The editorial work therefore begins before the choice of the word “innovation”.

We suggest preparing any announcement based on a factual sentence: what study or decision is new, on what scope and on what date? This sentence becomes the reference point for other media. It does not replace medical and regulatory proofreading. It helps teams identify gaps between scientific information, an institutional presentation and a formulation likely to be understood as a promise of care.

Explain the benefits and limitations in the same story

A presentation from the European Medicines Agency on the communication of benefits and risks highlights the adaptation of information to its audiences. This methodological benchmark reminds us that a health professional and a non-specialist reader do not approach a result with the same knowledge. Simplification must preserve the distinctions necessary for their understanding. [1]

To build the corporate story, the company can explain the research problem, the path taken and the contribution of the result. It must also specify the questions that remain open. Progress on a given indicator does not automatically demonstrate a benefit in all situations. The comparisons, populations studied and observation duration must be explained with the experts responsible for the study.

Avoid the story of the company going beyond that of the data

Calendar pressure may push a scientific announcement to coincide with a financial or institutional milestone. These sequences can be coordinated, but their messages are not interchangeable. Funding obtained demonstrates the completion of an operation; it does not alone validate clinical effectiveness. A partnership demonstrates a commitment between actors; it does not transform a hypothesis into a result.

The communications department can organize a file at two levels. The first sets out what is accessible to the public, in clear language. The second provides specialized journalists and competent interlocutors with the necessary sources, methods and contacts. The two levels must remain consistent. The general story must not affirm what the technical file then leads to strongly qualify.

Prepare words that can withstand objections

Difficult questions are often the most useful in preparation: who does the result apply to; what limits weigh on interpretation; what still needs to be studied; Are there any interests to declare? The spokesperson must know his role and know how to pass the floor to the competent expert. A manager's intervention can explain the research strategy without replacing a medical presentation.

A preparation session should test the formulations out of their initial context. What would a reader who only sees the title understand? What would a general journalist remember? Does a translation change the strength of the statement? These checks are particularly important when multiple countries, audiences, and channels are involved. The team needs to know which version is being referenced and how the fixes will be reflected.

Example: announcing an intermediate result

Let's take a fictitious example, unrelated to a real product: a company obtains an encouraging result in a still limited study. She can explain what the study observed and why it warrants a next step. Directly presenting a solution available to patients would produce a different conclusion, which does not follow from this observation alone.

A stronger narrative can highlight the scientific question, the method used, the teams' contribution and the next research agenda. It can also explain why certain uncertainties remain normal at this stage. Journalistic interest does not disappear when the limits are visible. It moves towards understanding the work and its challenges, instead of relying on a premature promise.

A validation sheet before publication

Element Proofreading question
Title Does it reflect the accurate status of the ad?
Result What criterion was observed, within what scope?
Comparison Is it relevant and understandable?
Limits Are they present where the reader needs them?
Next step Is it a decision, a project or a hypothesis?
Spokesperson Who can answer scientific questions?

The subjects of medical information, promotion and protection of people require validation adapted to the context. The role of communication is to organize this validation early enough so that the story can still be adjusted.

For Belief System, the credibility of a health company lies in its ability to explain progress without abolishing the uncertainties that accompany it. Thought leadership can then focus on research choices, the quality of evidence and the conditions for useful use, with reasoning that the reader can examine.
