Cyberattacks and ransomware: communicating while systems are down
Communicating a cyber crisis must allow those affected to act, even when the usual messaging and tools are no longer reliable. The challenge is to connect technical facts, decisions and useful information.
Install a usable decision circuit
Appoint a communications manager linked to the technical unit, management, legal and data protection. Agree on a security-validated backup channel and time-stamped log. Unavailability does not prove either data theft or the absence of compromise: each statement must maintain its level of certainty. The ANSSI guide distinguishes the preparation of communication and its activation during the attack.
Say what audiences can do
The first message specifies the affected services, confirmed solutions, safe contacts and the next point of information. Employees, customers and partners do not have the same needs. Avoid unvalidated recovery dates and outright denials of data before investigations are complete. Regulatory notifications and information to individuals follow a dedicated analysis; a press release does not replace them.
Scenario: a service sector company
Illustrative example, without underlying customer incident: a service provider can no longer process certain requests. An independent status page and a confirmed telephone channel help guide customers. The sales department receives a common response on available operations, those suspended and registered requests. Journalists get the same facts, without details that would weaken the technical response.
Prepare for the recovery and the next tests
Before announcing the return to normal, have the perimeter actually restored, the checks carried out and any restrictions confirmed. Maintain message versions to correct discrepancies. The assessment concerns the ability of people to find an answer, the questions left without an owner and the announcements too early. The number of media mentions is not enough to measure the quality of management.

Write to Belief SystemIndia–France–Europe: explain the delivery model behind the technology
For Indian technology businesses entering France, product communication should explain delivery responsibilities alongside technical performance. Describe the service delivered from India, any French team, the customer’s role and the escalation route. The European Commission’s AI Act guidance distinguishes obligations and application dates by role and use case; no single compliance statement covers every system. Specialists should establish the applicable position, after which the commercial narrative can explain intended use, oversight and limitations for procurement teams to assess.
Illustrative scenario: an Indian software supplier offers an AI assistant to a French enterprise. Before the demonstration, the teams agree what the product does, what data it uses and which support arrangements are actually available. A French-language explanation should match the approved English specification, while headquarters receives unresolved local questions. If the customer later proposes a recruitment use case, reassess the scope instead of carrying forward the original claim. Maintain dated evidence and make a responsible person available for follow-up. This turns a product presentation into an accountable delivery proposition.
This edition retains the French and European context of the analysis. The market note addresses its use by Indian headquarters and their French or European teams.
